Born into a family from the central region of Cameroon, one would have thought she would turn to theatre or dance, disciplines that rocked her childhood. Member of the famous BALLET BANTOU directed by her aunt, she skims the national and international scenes at the age little girls rather think of playing with dolls.
It is at the university that the music virus that has inhabited her for a very long time is revealed in the music club of which she quickly became the main singer, and with which she won numerous prizes. After a brief stint in the cabarets, the stages follow one another, the travels too, France, Nigeria, Brazil, Nicole is constantly in search of new musical sensations that will allow her to refine a more personal style.
Today, Nicole Obélé is above all a deep, powerful but also delicate voice, a powerful show. She is also an interpreter of choice, no doubt thanks to the many hours spent attending rehearsals by her aunt's theatre company, which sometimes made the family home her headquarters. Her music, she calls "Ekangazik", the musical bridge is a place where she can escape, remake the world in her own way, the moment of a few songs. It is a digest of ethnic sounds of the world, a journey between afrobeat, makunè, bossa nova, jazzy ballads, bikutsi, and other rhythms from the heart of Africa. For her first album "SUGLU NING" (the school of life), she choose as musical director, the bassist with black gloves, Etienne MBAPPE. In this 13 tracks opus, released in November 2013, Nicole takes us on enchanting and deliciously jazzy melodies, which she delivers in Ewondo, Fang, Bulu, Fufuldé and Bassa, some of the dialects of her native Cameroon. Her next album, “OBELESSENCE” which should be released on the coming months, is currently being finalized. Nice surprises in prospect.
